Memorial Hermann Sports Park – Katy, a new sports medicine and human performance facility on the campus of Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, broke ground this week.

The facility is a collaboration between Memorial Hermann and Athlete Training and Health, according to a press release. It’s also Athlete Training and Health’s first human performance center located on a hospital campus, according to a spokesperson.

The $15 million, 50,000-square-foot facility is expected to open in January 2019. It will provide a full range of medical care and athletic training for professional athletes, youth athletes and active adults, per the release.

It will also be home to an IronMan Sports Medicine Institute, a Memorial Hermann Medical Group primary care clinic and an ATH training center with an adult fitness space, pro-style weight room and an indoor turf field for performance training. There also will be an outdoor turf field to host various community sports leagues. UT Orthopedic physicians who already serve the Katy community will help support the facility, per the release.

“This unique collaboration between Memorial Hermann and ATH will benefit the full range of athletes in our community, from high school students to professional competitors, weekend warriors and beyond,” Heath Rushing, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Katy, said in the release. “Memorial Hermann Sports Park – Katy provides care for athletes from the moment of injury to the moment they return to play and beyond, serving as a one-stop-shop for all their sports medicine needs.”

Athlete Training and Health has other facilities in Spring, south Houston and Arlington, Texas. Next year, an $8 million facility — the second on a hospital campus — will open in Allen, Texas, through a partnership with Texas Health Resources.

Memorial Hermann Health System is the Houston area's second-largest health care system, based on its 3,750 local licensed beds as of September, according to Houston Business Journal research.
